REY GARZA, Range Operations Manager
Rey Garza is the MSTS Range Operations Manager and Alternate Program Manager. He was born in Harlingen Texas and raised in Reedley California, which is located near Fresno. He has over 19 years of direct range experience and has been a successful manager, due in large part to his unique perspective and knowledge as a range systems operator, maintainer and user.
After serving eight years of honorable service in the United States Air Force, he began working at the 412th Range Division, Edwards AFB, CA in 1987 as an Electronics Technician specializing in range communications systems. Mr. Garza's extensive technical knowledge, experience and educational developments led to an advanced position as a Systems Engineer with TYBRIN Corporation. While at TYBRIN, he supported NASA Dryden and was responsible for the development of extended range flight termination and communication systems for the X-33 Venture Star program. Mr. Garza later joined civilian service as a Range Safety Specialist for the 412th Range Division where he was responsible for safe UAV flight operations associated with high priority programs such Global Hawk and Predator. He also performed Project Management duties on advanced flight safety system developments.
Just prior to joining MSTS, Mr. Garza worked for JT3 at Edwards AFB, CA in support of the very successful J-TECH contract. As the Range Department Manager, he was responsible for leadership and oversight of the departments 1,250 employees and numerous range resources.
